Indivdual Blog Post #5

I'm very tired about hearing in the media scandals about people who are suppose to help run our country. Every few months we always have a politician that is getting into some kind of trouble. In the media right now they're talking about Blagojevich who is the governor of Illinois. Blagojevich was just arrested for trying to sell a seat in the senate and also trying to get a reporter fired from the Chicago Tribune for saying Blagojevich should be impeached.

This is unconstitutional because there is freedom of speech. This is also very sad because our new president elect, Barack Obama, is from there. He was only elected president a month ago and the governor of his state just got arrested. This is a great way for them to rain on Obama's parade.

It makes me so frustrated that this is going on in the media because these are the people that are running our country. This is why I don't trust the government. They say one thing, and then do another. They enforce rules that they don't obey. Chicago already has three governors that have been to prison. Politicians need to start being leaders.

Something that I find very interesting about the media is that they're not very diverse. Most journalists are white and are men. I notice most stories that are positive are about men that are white.

The media rarely portrays women, different races, and disabled people. Along with that the media barely portrays old people. I think it's because of the media our society is the way that it is. People believe the stereotypes that they hear about black and hispanic people because of how they are portrayed in the media.

Disabled people are hardly ever portrayed in the media and that's why so many people don't know how to treat them just like normal human beings. I feel like if something is negative in the media it's usually about a minority.

I think the media needs to be more diverse in its stories. Now that we have president elect Barak Obama the media needs to change. The media needs to be more open to other people and their stories. It's through the media that we can start to change stereotypes so that our kids can grow up in a better society.
